Vegetables are the crops that are grown and eaten when fresh. Plants are categorized under the horticultural crops. There are different types of plants which include leafy vegetables, e.g., cabbage, root vegetables, e.g., carrot and tulips, fruit vegetables, e.g., tomatoes, steam vegetables, e.g., leek and the bulb vegetables, e.g., the bulb onions. They are categorized depending on the part that is eaten. Vegetables can be eaten when raw or cooked.

They require intensive care and proper management for their maturity. They provide vitamin A, B and C. lack of this vitamin may lead to night blindness beriberi and scurvy.

In places where the climate is not very conducive for the growth of the vegetables, they can be grown in the shade known as the greenhouse. In the greenhouse, It is possible to take care of the plants until they reach harvesting stage. When raising plants in the greenhouse, it is feasible to control the conditions which are required for the growth of the crop. All the type mentioned above of vegetable can be grown in the greenhouse.

Below are seven plants which can be grown in a greenhouse

1. Tomatoes

They are grown for fruits. The following are the conditions the favor production of the plants.

· Altitude is ranging from 0-2100 above the sea level.

· Rainfall amounts of 760 mm-1300mm. The rain should be well distributed through the production period.

· During the growing of tomatoes, the soil should be fertile and well drained. In the case when the soil nutrients aren’t sufficient, they can be supplemented by the use of artificial fertilizers.

· The soil PH best for production of vegetables of 6.5.

Temperatures ranging from 20-300c.

2. Cabbages

They are grown as a leaf vegetable. Conditions required for production of sprouts include;

Altitude of between 1800m -2900 above the sea level.

Rainfall of about 750mm .rainfall should be well distributed during the growing period.

Soils should be fertile and well drained.

Temperatures ranging from 200 c-30 0 c

3. Carrots

They are a biennial vegetable that is grown as an annual crop. Carrot is grown as a tuber crop. They provide vitamin A. they are suitable to take to prevent eye problems, e.g., night blindness.

Conditions necessary for the production of carrots are as shown below.

Altitude is ranging from 0-2900 m above the sea level.

Well-drained soil which is fertile and deep soils. The soil should be of fine tilth to ensure easy penetration and expansion of the roots.

The Rainfall amount that ranges from 750mm-1000mm. The rainfall should be well distributed through the growing period.

Carrots do well in slightly acidic soil of PH 6.5.

Temperatures ranging from 20-300c

4. Onions

It is a biennial crop, but commonly grown as an annual crop.it is used as a flavoring vegetable

Conditions necessary for growth of onions include;

Rainfall of over 1000mml which should be well distributed throughout the growing season.

Soils should be fertiel, well drained and of ph ranging from 6.0-7.0

Altitude of 2100 and above the sea level.

Onions require a relatively long dry season for ripening.

Temperatures ranging from 20-300c

5. Kales

Kale belongs to the same family with the cabbages. The almost need the same ecological conditions which include:
Rainfall is ranging from 750-2000mm which should be well distributed through the growing period.

High altitude between 1800-2900 meters above the sea level.

The soil should be deep, rich, fertile and well-drained which is slightly acidic with a ph of 6.5

Temperatures ranging from 20-300c

6. Beans

Beans are grown to use when the seeds are fresh or when they are dry.

They are annual crops. They require the following conditions to produce.

Fertile and well-drained soil.

Rainfall ranging from 750-1500mm well distributed through the growing season

Altitude ranging from0-2000 m above the sea level. Bean do well at different heights depending on the variety.

Beans require moderate temperature during flowering and high temperatures during the ripening time.

7. Peas

Peas are in the same family as the beans.they are grown as annual crops and to be consumed when fresh or when dry the ecological condition for growing of peas Is similar to those of grains which include; Fertile and well-drained soil.

Rainfall ranging from 750-1500mm well distributed through the growing season

Altitude ranging from0-2000 m above the sea level. Bean do well at different heights depending on the variety.

Beans require moderate temperature during flowering and high temperatures during the ripening time.

In conclusion, all the above vegetables can be grown in the shade, i.e., the greenhouse. All that is required is to maintain the conditions for their production. With that, it is possible to attain high harvest of the crop from the shade.
